Kidnapped local journalist freed in NangarharBy Abdul Mueed Hashmi Feb 11, 2012 - 18:38
JALALABAD (PAN): A journalist working for the state-run Radio Television of Afghanistan (RTA) was freed by his kidnappers in the eastern province of Nangarahar on Saturday, a day after his abduction.
After his release, Kuchai Nasiri told Pajhwok Afghan News he was abducted by the Taliban in the Surkhrod district, where had gone to attend funeral prayers for his grandmother.
The gunmen dragged him out of his car and drove him away towards the Kakar area in another car, he said, adding the kidnappers asked him many questions, but he did not answer.
The RTA official said his release was a result of joint efforts by his colleagues and tribal elders.
The kidnappers were forced to release the journalist because of intense pressure build up by different circles, the governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abulzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The Taliban have said nothing so far about the kidnapping, the third such incident taking place over the past four months.
