KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): The administrative head of Zherai district in southern Kandahar province on Sunday survived a militant attack, but one of his guards was injured, an official said.
Niaz Mohammad came under attack while travelling in a car from Kandahar City to the district, the governor’s spokesman, Zalmay Ayubi, told Pajhwok Afghan News. A security guard of the district chief sustained injuries in the gun attack.
Mohammad, who has previously escaped unhurt in attacks, also blamed Taliban for the ambush. According to Ayubi, Mohammad played a key role in bringing security to the district.
There was no claim of responsibility for the assault, but the governor’s spokesman blamed it on the militants, saying the rebels were against peace in the country.
