SHARAN (PAN): Six Taliban fighters and two policemen hailing from southeastern Paktika province were killed during a clash in neighbouring Ghazni province, an official said on Monday.
Chasing a car carrying militants, the policemen came under attack as soon as they entered the Aab Band district on Sunday afternoon, the governor's spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Mukhlis Afghan said three police officials were wounded in the rebel ambush. At least six attackers were killed when police returned fire, the spokesman added.
Police had spotted the car in Khushamand district and started chasing it into Aab Band town, where fighters ambushed the security personnel, the gubernatorial spokesman said.
A militant commander identified as Fida Mohammad was among the dead, Afghan said, adding the car was completely destroyed in the fire exchange.
One of the wounded policemen said their vehicle was also damaged. Khushamand, which borders two districts of Ghazni, is being partially controlled by the government.
