LASHKARGAH (PAN): Banned fertilisers weighing 3.5 tonnes were recovered during a raid on the house of a Taliban-designated mayor for southern Helmand province, the governor’s office said on Monday.
Acting on an intelligence report, security personnel carried out the operation in the Janikhel village on the outskirts of Lashkargah, the provincial capital, on Sunday night, the governor’s office said in a statement.
The seizure included 3, 5000 tonnes of ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3), a banned fertiliser used in making bombs, and potassium chloride (KCl), the statement added. The material was recovered from the house of Mullah Jabbar, a Taliban-designated mayor.
The fertilisers had been brought from Quetta, the capital of Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province, for use in terrorist activities, the statement added.
