Kunar stun Peshawar in cricket event opener

ASADABAD (PAN’s northwestern city of Peshawar in their maiden match of a three-day tournament that began in the eastern Afghan province on Thursday.

Featuring teams from Kunar and Peshawar, the Peace Cricket Tournament is being played at the Kunar Stadium in Asadabad, the provincial capital.

Peshawar’s skipper won the toss and chose to bat, with his side managing to pile up 220 runs for the loss of six wickets, an Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) official said.

Adil told Pajhwok Afghan News the Kunar side was able to chase the target in the 27th over for the loss of six wickets. Syed Rahman from Peshawar made 69 runs, followed by Sajid with 46.

Kunar batsman Khan Mohammad was declared the Man of the Match for scoring 68 runs off just 19 balls. For the winners, Pacha Hussain was the highest run-scorer with 87. Walid took three wickets

Adil said the tournament would continue for another two days.

The Peshawar coach said it was for the first time they were visiting Kunar to play matches. He added the tournament would help players share experiences and techniques.

Kunar won all the three matches against Peshawar in Pakistan’s Rawalpindi city some time back.
