PUL-I-ALAM (PAN): Provincial council members of central Logar province on Thursday accused lawmakers of interference in their official work, but the MPs dismissed the claim as baseless.

“MPs are illegally meddling in the council’s affairs”, alleged Dr. Abdul Wali Wakil, the council head.  Without naming anyone, he told Pajhwok Afghan News residents were unhappy with their MPs for doing nothing for their wellbeing.

Another council member, wishing anonymity, said lawmakers Eng. Sahib Khan and Akbar Stanikzai interfered in the council administrative board’s polls.

But Stanikzai said the council members, by leveling the allegation, wanted to hide their failure to serve the people. “We consult council members on issues, when required.

The council members had been involved in running their private businesses and did not care about their responsibility toward the people, he said.

Residents also criticised the council members for remaining absent from their office and lack of resolve to address their problems. Resident Ahmad Wali said the council members remained engaged in their private matters.

But Wakil cited the establishment of a private university and schools in the province and release of prisoners from the Bagram prison as their significant achievements over the past two years.
