ISLAMABAD (PAN): At least 20 people were killed and dozens injured in a suicide attack near a mosque in the Parachinar town of Pakistan’s northwestern Kurram tribal region on Friday afternoon, officials said.
The bombing happened in the main bazaar of the town after Juma prayers, government official Zarin Hussain told Pajhwok Afghan News. The attacker blew up his explosives-laden motorcycle in the market, killing and injuring scores of people, he added.
Another local government official, who did not want to be named, put the toll at 21 people dead and more than 40 injured. “According to preliminary reports, 21 people were killed," he added.
A number of shops and hotels were damaged by the powerful explosion, witness Abid Orakzai said. He said the situation was tense in the area, a stronghold of Taliban and Al Qaeda insurgents.
