ISLAMABAD: Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday said Islamabad would not provide any assistance to US forces in the event of an attack on the neighbouring Muslim country.

Zardari held out the categorical assurance at a trilateral summit with his Iranian and Afghan counterparts in Islamabad. Since Pakistan and Iran needed each other, they would not accept foreign dictates, he remarked.

With regard to the proposed Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project, he sent a loud and clear message to Washington not to tell Islamabad who it could and could not trade with.

At a joint news conference after the tripartite meeting, the Iranian president assailed foreign powers for interfering in regional affairs. “Some countries are determined to dominate our region. They have targeted our region for their domination and hegemony.”

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said there were no fundamental problems among the three countries, where outsiders were creating trouble. Without naming anyone, he said they should stand united to frustrate such efforts.
