10 children die of pneumonia in BadakhshanBy Tanha Feb 21, 2012 - 15:24
FAIZABAD (PAN): Ten children have died of pneumonia and 200 livestock perished as a result of a fodder shortage in northeastern Badakhshan province, officials said on Tuesday.
Over the past three days, the children were killed in the Dorang area of Yawaran district, where another 10 minors were suffering from pneumonia and other respiratory diseases, the Faizabad Civil Hospital director said.
Dr. Noor Mohammad Khawri told Pajhwok Afghan News a health team of Care for Afghan Families (CAF) had been to the remote area to provide medical services for the residents.
With heavy snowfall in the province blocking almost all routes to the provincial capital and district centre, residents were unable to go to clinics.
Meanwhile, a member of the provincial council confirmed the spread of pneumonia and fodder shortages in Yawaran and Raghistan districts, saying 200 livestock had perished in the towns.
