KABUL’s desecration in the future.

A number of reliougs scholars from Nangarhar province, headed by Afghanistan Council head Qayadamudin Kashaaf, issued the call at a meeting with President Hamid Karzai.

A statement from Karzai’s office quoted Maulvi-led soldiers conducted night operations in a Nangarhar town that had been transferred to the Afghan forces.

The Ulema asked Karzai to order a clear and complete stop to night raids and full transfer of the security responsibility to local forces, the statement added.

Despite apologies from senior US officials and religious scholars’ calls for restraint, more than 25 people have been killed over the past four days in nationwide demonstrations against the alleged sacrilege.
