Afghan soldier kills ISAF troops in Zherai
KABUL (PAN): Two International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) soldiers were shot dead by a soldier of the Afghan National Army (ANA) in southern Kandahar province on Thursday, officials said.
The shooting took place in the Sangsar area of Zherai district at 2:30am, district chief Niaz Muhammad Sarhadi told Pajhwok Afghan News. An ANA education corps member, appointed by the Karwan Company, fired at the NATO-led soldiers.
“In retaliatory fire, coalition troops killed the attacker and an ANA soldier. Another soldier was injured,” the official added. Full details of the shooting were yet to emerge, he continued.
Meanwhile, ISAF confirmed the incident. Two individuals -- one believed to be an Afghan soldier and the other in civilian clothing -- turned their weapons against its servicemembers.
Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi linked the incident to a verbal clash between Afghan and NATO-led soldiers on the issue of the Quran burning.
At least six foreign soldiers have been killed by Afghan security personnel in less than two weeks. Two US military advisors were gunned down on Feb. 25 inside their office at the Ministry of Interior.
During a protest over the Quran desecration, an ANA member shot dead two American troops in the Khogyani district of eastern Nangarhar province on Feb 23.
