MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN): The border police commander for the northern zone on Tuesday said they needed policewomen to improve the performance of the force.

Policewomen were needed to search females at ports, Gen. Abdul Habib Syedkhel told a meeting of women police at the border police headquarters, ahead of international women’s Day on March 8.

Given its involvement in public dealing, the Afghan National Police (ANP) needed to have women in its ranks, said the commander.

At the Sher Khan Port, Kunduz Airport, Mazar-i-Sharif Airport and Hairatan Port, six women police officers, 12 corporals and 23 junior officers are currently performing duties.
