KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Four civilians were killed and 10 others wounded in a bomb blast in the Spin Boldak border town in southern Kandahar province on Wednesday, an official said.
The incident took place at around 10:30am when an explosives-rigged motorcycle exploded at the dry port near the Afghanistan friendship gate, the governor’s spokesman said.
Zalmay Ayubi told Pajhwok Afghan News at least four civilians, including two women and as many children, were killed and eight others wounded in the attack. A border policeman was among the injured.
However, border police official Janan said that eight civilians and two policemen were wounded in the remote-controlled blast. The wounded were taken to the Spin Boldak district hospital. Some of them are in critical condition.
A number of nearby shops and vehicles were damaged by the heavy explosion, said a shopkeeper in the area, Saleem. The explosion occurred near a convoy of foreign troops, he added.
Meanwhile, the NATO) media office confirmed the explosion. However, it denied the presence of foreign servicemembers in the area.
The Ministry of Interior and the Kandahar governor’s office condemned the bombing, saying the enemies of peace had once again targeted ordinary people. No one has so far claimed responsibility for the blast.
