11,000 new teachers to be recruited next year: official

KABUL official said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a three-day workshop for teachers in Kabul, the teaching department head at the ministry, Mohammad Siddique Patman said the registration process for recruiting new teachers having bachelor’s degrees to teach 14^th class students would be started in all provinces a week later.

Keeping in view the shortage of female teachers in 240 districts of the country, 60 percent of the new teachers would be women, he said.  In Uruzgan, a female teacher will receive $1,200 (59,256 afghanis) as monthly salary and in Paktia $800, he said.

The comparatively high salaries for female teachers in the two provinces were to facilitate their families there, he said.

Teachers in provinces experiencing the shortage of female teachers would be given a monthly bonus of $60, Patman announced.

Official say there are 14,000 schools across the country, where 190,000 teachers, 30 percent of them female, are employed.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Public Health officials said 1,100 students would be enrolled to the Ghazanfar Institute of Higher education.
