ISLAMABAD (PAN, an official said on Thursday.

The couple, Olivier David Och, 31, and Daniela Widmer, 28,  were kidnapped from southwestern Balochistan province at gun-point on July 1 and they were able to flee on Thursday, Major General Athar Abbas, the army’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) director-general told reporters in Islamabad.

Abbas did not say if the release was a result of any deal, but added the couple was airlifted in a helicopter to Peshawar and they would be sent home country soon after a debriefing.

The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) had claimed responsibility for the kidnapping, demanding the release of US-imprisoned Pakistani doctor Aafia Siddiqui in exchange.

Dr Siddiqui, arrested in Afghanistan, has been sentenced to 86 years of imprisonment by a US federal court for allegedly firing at US troops in Afghanistan.

Professor Ajmal Khan, Chancellor of Islamia College University Peshawar, who is also in TTP custody, has said in video message that Pakistan had freed 100 militants in exchange for the Swiss hostages.
