KABUL): A severe windstorm on Monday forced the Kabul International Airport authorities to cancel a number of international and domestic flights, an official said.

“Flights for Turkey, Iran, India and Pakistan were postponed and domestic flights to Kandahar and Herat cancelled,” said the deputy operations head at the airport, Inayatullah Siddiqui.

The storm thundered through the city at a speed of 20-35 miles per hour, leading to the cancelation of several flights, he said. Flights will resume as and when the situation returns to normal.

It also uprooted trees in several parts of the city, where a large number of shops had to be closed in the Deh Afghanan area, shopkeeper Hamidullah said.
