KABUL national museum.

“The competition marks a significant, tangible milestone in both United States and Afghan support in promoting and protecting Afghanistan’s rich cultural heritage,” the US embassy said in a statement.

The event, which calls for proposals of ideas for a possible future design of a new National Museum of Afghanistan, is a component of US Embassy Kabul’s and United States government’s support for the protection and longevity of Afghan cultural heritage.

Following a March 2011 announcement, the US Embassy initially pledged $5 million toward the Afghan National Museum. “This bilaterally supported competition follows through on this initial pledge. The Ministry of Information and Culture also closely collaborated with US embassy on all aspects of the competition’s development”.

The embassy said the ministry, showing its continued commitment to the museum’s establishment, had allocated $2 million for the project.
