2 officials dead, 1 injured in Helmand attacks
LASHKARGAH (PAN): Two government officials were killed and a third wounded in two separate incidents in the southern province of Helmand, an official said on Friday.
Acting administrator of Nawa district, Abdul Aziz, was gunned down by two motorcyclists in front of his residence in Lashkargah, the provincial capital, the deputy police chief said.
Col. Mohammad Ismail Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News the attack took place in the Sapi area on the outskirts of the provincial capital on Thursday night. The assailants managed to flee the area. An investigation has been launched into the incident.
One policeman was killed and another wounded soon after a police pick-up hit a roadside bomb in Sangin district of the province on Friday morning, Col. Hotak said.
A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi asserted responsibility for the killing of Aziz, the district’s acting administrative chief. The fighters also killed foreign soldiers in Sangin district, Yousuf added.
