JALALABAD (PAN fighters were killed and two policemen wounded in a major clash between both parties in the eastern province of Nuristan, an official said Sunday.

The violent fight broke out in Kamdesh district of the province late Saturday evening, said Gen. Ghulamullah Khan, provincial police chief.

“The six militants also included a Commander Abdul Rahim,” Khan told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The wounded policemen are recuperating in hospital and said to be in stable condition.

But the anti-government Taliban militants are yet to comment on their defeat.

Meanwhile, unknown gunmen raided a doctor’s house – killing him and injuring his wife — in Khiwa district of Nangarhar province, said a local official.

Ejaz Momand, the district chief, said Dr. Khan Mohammad was killed in Kawo area on Saturday night.

When police team arrived, the assailants had fled the area, he said.

Dr. Ghulam Mohammad, the victim’s brother, said the deceased   was also the elder of three villages, besides being a doctor at the healthcare centre in the district.

He said his brother had no known enemies.
