Gilani didn’t refuse to head peace body: party

Gilani didn’t refuse to head peace body: party

Apr 05, 2012 - 16:08

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): The Mahaz-i-Mili Afghanistaninfo-icon on Thursday rejected as baseless reports that its leader Syed Ahmad Gilani has refused to head the High Peace Councilinfo-icon.

Reports by some media outlets about Gilani’s refusal to be chairman of the council are baseless, a statement from the party said, blaming some unnamed groups for trying to hinder the peace process.

Prof. Burhanuddin Rabbani, the government’s chief peace negotiator, was assassinated in a suicide attack on Sept. 20, 2011. The council has since been leaderless.
