 BAGRAM (PAN) said on Sunday.

Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers, along with coalition forces, killed five fighters in a shootout in the Manogai district of Kunar province, a statement from the multinational force said.

Coalition troops killed two militants spotted with an AK-47 and rocket-propelled grenade launcher in the Yousafkhel district of southeastern Paktika province.

In a separate incident in the Dilah Wa Khosha district, foreign troops killed two rebels armed with AK-47s and RPGs, said the statement.

ANA soldiers also detained five suspects with a cache of small arms and materials used in making improvised explosive devices (IED) in the Zarghoon Shahr district of the same province.

Afghan soldiers detained an individual who was suspected of being a wanted insurgent in Bak district of neighbouring Khost province. The suspect was later confirmed to be an insurgent through biometrics on a coalition base and evidence linked the detainee to a previously emplaced IED.
