In another early morning incident, unidentified gunmen shot dead a tribal elder and former Jihadiinfo-icon commander in the Marwari district of Kunar Province, Habiburahman, the town’s administrative chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said victim Syed Kamal, also a member of the district development council, was heading to the district bazaar when gunmen targeted him.

Meanwhile, district chief of Balamurghab succumbed to injuries when his vehicle hit a roadside bomb while traveling to the district in northwestern Badghis Province.

The victim, Mohammad Hasham Habibi was on his way to participate in the Gul-i-Pista festival (Pistachios flower) in Kata Qul area when the tragedy struck, said Abdul Ghani Saberi, the deputy governor.
