LASHKARGAH (PAN): A 12-year-old boy, kidnapped four days ago in Lashkargah, the provincial capital of southern Helmand province, was rescued from his kidnappers on Friday, an official said.
The victim, Naqiullah, a fourth class student, was kidnapped in front of a middle school in the city and had been taken to the Kajaki district by his kidnappers, a security official told Pajhwok Afghan News on condition of anonymity.
The boy was rescued after police arrested leader of the kidnap gang, identified as Abdul Hadi in the Bolan area of Lashkargah. Hadi’s relatives surrendered the boy to intelligence officials, he said.
Intelligence officials confirmed a suspect in connection with the kidnapping had been arrested and was being interrogated. They hoped remaining members of the group would soon be arrested.
The boy told Pajhwok Afghan News the kidnappers put him into a car and that he had no idea when the car reached Kajaki.
He said another two kidnapped boys were locked up with him in a room and he did not know why the two had been kidnapped.
However, Hadi denied having hand in kidnapping Naqibullah. He said the boy was taken to Kajaki by his nephew for harvesting poppy crops.
