    Suspected fighters held in Parwan

CHARIKAR (PAN): A Taliban commander was detained along with two of his associates in the central province of Parwan, officials said on Friday.

Commander Humayun, alias Jahid, and his accomplices Mudeer and Nasratullah were detained by National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives.

Hailing from the province, then were held with the cooperation of police on charges of having links to Taliban and conducting terrorist activities, the governor’s spokeswoman said.

Roshna Khalid added the detainees had confessed during interrogation to planning attacks on military bases of foreign forces in Bagram and the South Korean Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT).

Some ammunitions, including rocket shells and communication materials, had been recovered from the militants, she said.

A statement from the NDS, meanwhile, confirmed the arrests. Over the past week, seven men have been detained in Parwan for having ties to insurgents.
