Waziristan drone strike leaves 8 dead

May 05, 2012 - 10:39

ISLAMABAD (PANinfo-icon): Eight suspected militants were killed in a CIA-operated drone attack in Pakistaninfo-icon’s restive tribal region of North Waziristan near the Afghanistaninfo-icon border, officials said on Saturday.

A security official in Miran Shah, the main town of Waziristan, told Pajhwok Afghan News on condition of anonymity that the drone struck a house in the region, killing eight people. He said the victims’ identities were yet to be established.

Malik Mumtaz, a Miran Shan-based reporter, said since the drone attack was launched in a remote area, further details of the incident were not available at the moment.

He claimed the victims were local residents, but could not confirm their ties to the insurgents active in the troubled region.
