GHAZNI CITY (PAN): A primary court sentenced four people to death and another two to 20 years in jail in a kidnap-murder case in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Tuesday.

Led by Sher Ahmad, the individuals abducted Sherzad, an 18-year-old boy, from Ghazni City, the provincial capital, and killed him after the victim’s family failed to pay $300,000 (14.9 million afghanis) in ransom.

Although the abductors received $80,000 from the family, they killed Sherzad and dumped his body into a well in the Jangal Bagh area.

Under Article 395 of the relevant law, Sher Ahmad, son of Jalaluddin, Mustafa, son of Faizuddin, Hamed and Basher, both sons of Gul Mohammad, were awarded the capital punishment.

Judge Khalilullah Waghizi said Naqibullah, son of Ghulam Hazrat, and Khyber, son of Yar Mohammad, were sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment. According to the ruling, the individuals have to return the $80,000.

The family said it was happy with the verdict, but insisted the individuals be hanged in public. Sherzad’s uncle, Dr. Ismail, told Pajhwok Afghan News a public hanging would serve as a lesson for others.
