100 budding players learn cricket techniques

KABUL): Nearly 100 youth completed a week-long cricket training at two separate camps in central Kapisa and southern Ghazni provinces, an official said on Friday.

The training camps were arranged by the Afghan Youth Cricket Support Organisation (AYCSO) with the cooperation of Afghan Connection and Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) of the UK.

Former Afghan skipper and director of AYCSO, Raees Ahmadzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News boys between the ages of 14 and 18 years were trained on different techniques by the national team trainer, Mujahid Zadran.

Although cricket needed to be promoted in the two provinces, players were keen on learning the basic techniques of the game, Zadran, said. Players were taught how to bat, field and bowl in a technical manner, he added.

Ghulam Syed, 15, a player from Ghazni, thanked AYCSO for conducting the first-ever training camp in the province. He said that they were playing cricket before, but no one had properly trained them.“I learnt techniques about every aspect of the game.”

AYCSO founder, Ahmadzai, said they would shortly launch more training programmes in 10 other provinces of the country to promote the game.
