Khyber mortar strike kills women, children
ISLAMABAD (PAN): Five people of a family were killed on Friday when a mortar shell hit their vehicle in Pakistan’s restive northwestern tribal region of Khyber near the Afghanistan border, officials said.
The mortar attack that left dead two women and three children occurred in the Shalobar area of Bara sub-district, a political administration official told Pajhwok Afghan News on condition of anonymity.
At least one person was wounded in the incident that came during a clash between security forces and militants in the restive area, he said, adding that it was yet to be ascertained who had fired the shell.
Local reporter Javed Aziz said amid preparations for a looming military operation in the area, the family was migrating to a safer place. Many residents were leaving the sub-district, he added.
