KHOST CITY (PAN and the US.

At a meeting in Khost City, the provincial capital, the participants said the accord was in favour of Afghanistan and asked both parties to remain committed to their promises.

“The agreement is a great achievement for the country,” Governor Abdul Jabbar Naeemi told the gathering. “If we want to have a developed, strong and stable Afghanistan, we should sign strategic agreements with other countries on long-term cooperation”.

Since the agreement answered the questions raised by Afghans, they supported it, scholar Abdul Rahman said. He asked Afghanistan and the US to take effective steps for implementing the deal.

Also present on the occasion was a representative from the US embassy, who said the Obama administration and the international community wanted a strong government in Afghanistan.

He added the US-led global fraternity was trying to establish a democratic, peaceful and independent government in the war-torn country.

The participants rejected the Iranian government’s call for Afghan Parliament not to endorse the deal. They asked neighbouring countries to stop interference in the domestic affairs of Afghanistan.

President Hamid Karzai and his US counterpart signed the agreement on May 1 in Kabul. Under the pact, the US will support Afghanistan in areas of culture, military, economy and others from 2014 to 2024.
