ASADABAD (PAN): The wheat distribution process to 19,000 poor families was started by the agriculture, irrigation and livestock department in eastern Kunar proivnce on Saturday, officials said.
Agriculture Director Mahsal Khan Fatohi told Pajhwok Afghan News that the 1,900 tonnes of India-donated wheat was being distributed by his department. Each family will get 100 kilograms of wheat.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony, Govenor Syed Fazlullah Wahidi thanked India for the asssitance and said the aid would be delivered to the deserving households in the presence of a special commission.
Orphans and disabled people were being accorded priority, he added.
A 15-year-old orphan, Naseerullah, said the government had assisted his family with two bags, each containing 50 kilograms of wheat. If orphan and widows were given aid every two or three months, many of their problmes would be solve, he hoped.
India has donated to Afghanistan 60,000 tonnes of wheat that will be distributed to needy families in diffent parts of the coutnry.
