MEHTARLAM (PAN): Five Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed and two others wounded in a roadside bombing in eastern Laghman province, officials said on Monday.

The blast took place late Sunday when the soldiers were patrolling the Karanjaw area on the outskirts of Alishang district, said the 201st Selab Military Corps commander.

Lt. Col. Shah Alam Baghlani told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosion claimed the lives of five soldiers and injured two others, who were said to be in stable condition.

Lt. Col. Mohammad Numan Hatefi, the 201st Selab Military Corps spokesman, confirmed the incident and the casualties, saying the injured were rushed to hospital.

Mohammad Salim, a local resident, said an ANA vehicle struck the roadside bomb that caused the deaths of the soldiers and their bodies were transferred by a helicopter.
