ISAF troops, civilians killed in Kunar attacks

ASADABAD (PAN attacks in the eastern province of Kunar on Friday, officials said.

Three people, including two children, were killed and six others wounded as a result of four Taliban-fired mortar shells that landed in a civilian house in Watapur district at 10am.

One woman was among the dead, Governor  Syed Fazlullah Wahidi told Pajhwok Afghan News. The injured — two other women and four children — were evacuated to the Kunar Civil Hospital.

They were in stable condition, the governor said, adding that three more shells fell in a barren area near the district headquarters.

Of the seven people brought to the hospital a child succumbed to his injuries, said a doctor on duty, Matiullah Safi.

Laiq, a relative of one of the victims, said his daughter, sister and another family member were killed and six others wounded in the incident.

Separately, two foreign soldiers were killed and six others wounded in a rocket attack on their base in the same province, said a local security official, who did not want to be named, because he is not authorised to speak to media representatives.

In Kabul. In line with its policy, the NATO-led force neither revealed the victims’ nationalities nor the exact location of the attack.

However, the Afghan security official said six ISAF troops were wounded when the insurgents fired attacks on a foreign military base in Nari ditrict.

With the latest fatalities, the number of international troops killed in the country this year has increased to 158 — 110 of them US military personnel.
