KABUL’s progress and future needs, his office said.

Representatives from 60 countries and international agencies, including the European Union, the World Bank and the UN, will discuss funding for Afghan forces after 2014, when most foreign troops are to withdraw from the country.

A statement from the Presidential Palace said Karzai and his delegation landed at the Chicago airport and was welcomed by officials, including the Afghan ambassador and other diplomats.

At the summit, Karzai would address heads of state and brief representatives from the international community on the expectations of the Afghans, the statement added.

NATO will assess its military presence and affirm its commitment to equipping, training and strengthening Afghan security forces after 2014 — a deadline for the withdrawal of international soldiers.

The alliance has described the Chicago meet as a historical event, saying it would pursue crucial decisions on Afghanistan.
