GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Framers of Andar and Deh Yak districts in southern Ghazni province on Saturday claimed that recent heavy rains and hailstorm destroyed all their farms.
The heavy downpours lashed 20 villages on Friday afternoon, Mangal, a resident of Ali Qala area of De Yak district told Pajhwok Afghan News.
“I had grown onions in 20 farms but the storm destroyed the crops completely,” the resident said, adding crops belonging to other villagers suffered the same fate.
Sher Mohammad, another farmer of Deh Yak district, said his wheat crops cultivated over several acres of land were washed away by heavy rains. He demanded the government to provide them financial assistance.
Andar district chief Sher Khan Yousafzai said farmers in the two districts suffered financial losses amounting to hundreds of thousands of afghanis due to the storm.
He had talked to the provincial governor and provincial Afghanistan Natural Disasters Management Authority (ANDMA) on providing the affected farmers with assistance.
