7 militants killed in Waziristan drone strike

7 militants killed in Waziristan drone strike

May 28, 2012 - 12:11

ISLAMABAD (PANinfo-icon): Seven foreign fighters were killed in a CIA-operated drone attack in Pakistaninfo-icon’s restive tribal region of North Waziristan near the Afghanistaninfo-icon border, officials said on Monday.

The drone fired two missiles on a house in the Esakhel area -- about three kilometres away from Mir Ali town -- on Sunday night, killing seven foreign insurgents, a security official in Miran Shah told Pajhwok Afghan News on condition of anonymity.

However another security official said that US drones attack a house and a car -- where seven militants were killed.

Malik Mumtaz, a Miran Shah-based reporter, the main town of Waziristan, said the house and the car were destroyed in the attacks, and the victims could not be recognised due to severe injuries.

Recently, drone attacks have increased in the troubled region, sometimes as many as 15 unmanned aerial vehicles flying over the area, he said.

At least 20 people have been killed in four drone attacks over the past four days in North Waziristan.
