US drone kills 19 militants in Waziristan
ISLAMABAD (PAN): Nineteen suspected militants were killed in a US drone strike, the fifth attack in the past week, in Pakistan’s North Waziristan tribal region, near the Afghanistan border, an official said on Tuesday.
The attack took place on Monday night in the Bahaikhel area, 30 kilometres close to Miranshah, the region’s main town, a local administration official, Tasleem Khan told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said several people were killed in the attack but did not mention the victims’ identity or the exact number of casualties.
A local journalist, Yousuf Haroon, said that CIA-operated drones carried out the attack at 9 pm in the Datakhel village of Bahai area, killing five people.
Separately, 15 militants were killed during an operation by Pakistani forces in the Awrakzai Agency of Pakistan.
According to local officials, several militants were also detained during the ongoing operation, launched on Tuesday morning in the Mamozi area of the Agency.
