KABUL): The National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) on Tuesday announced a four-year national strategy for biodiversity, and set in motion the process of its implementation.

Speaking at a day-long workshop in Kabul, NEPA deputy head Ghulam Mohammad Malikyar said the strategy was aimed at protecting Afghanistan’s flora, fauna and natural resources.

After implementation of the strategy, he said plants, animals and natural resources like pastures would be declared in 10 percent of the country’s territory.

He added the strategy was devised by NEPA with cooperation from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Kabul University and relevant government and non-governmental organisations.
