TIRINKOT/GARDEZ (PAN): Two suicide bombers blew themselves up after police surrounded them inside a steel warehouse in Tirinkot, the capital of central Uruzgan province, on Tuesday, an official said.

Police spokesman Farid Ayel told Pajhwok Afghan News the pair detonated their explosives after failing to exit the warehouse. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Elsewhere, a huge blast killed one person and injured 20 others in Gardez, the capital of southeastern Paktia province, police said.

Deputy police chief Col. Mohammad Zaman told Pajhwok Afghan News the blast occurred at around 7pm in the heart of the city.  He said one person was killed and four others were wounded.

A doctor on duty at the Gardez civil hospital confirmed receiving 20 injured people from the scene. He said four of the wounded were in critical condition.

“It was about evening when I closed my shop and was talking to a friend when the blast occurred,” said an injured man at the hospital.
