KABUL) has enacted a five-year strategic plan to improve electoral administration and strengthen the electoral process, the panel said on Sunday.
After consulting various stakeholders, the IEC decided to formulate the long-term strategy to counter existing problems and challenges facing the electoral process.
“Having a strategic plan will prepare the ground for an organisation to develop, guide its staff into a specific goal and results in enhancing communications and ensuring transparency,” said an IEC statement.
The commission has set up a special committee that consulted various stakeholders in the country — from political parties, civil society, mass media, the international community to academic institutions — before finalising the draft.
“The plan contains details on activities which IEC plans to achieve the general goals — like strengthening and generalising democracy through establishing an atmosphere of trust, increasing the level of national participation and institutionalising standard elections in the country,” added the statement
