LASHKARGAH (PAN): Over 70 policemen suffered food poisoning after consuming beverages in the southern Helmand province but reported to be in stable condition, authorities said on Monday.
Forty policemen were poisoned in a police training centre after drinking beverages purchased in a nearby bazaar, police spokesman Farid Ahmad Farhang told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The policemen are in stable condition and the case is under investigation, he added.
However, Bost Civil Hospital head Dr. Nisar Ahmad Barak said 76 policemen complaining of poisoning were admitted at the hospital and medical tests revealed they suffered from food poisoning.
In an unrelated incident, a policeman was killed and three others wounded when their vehicle overturned on Monday in the Razi area of Khashrod district, said district police chief Maj. Abdul Jalil.
The injured policemen were taken to Nimroz Civil Hospital and are in stable condition, said district chief Mohammad Hashim Noorzai.
The accident occurred due to the police vehicle over speeding, he added.
