GARDEZ (PAN): Two policemen were killed and 10 civilians injured on Saturday, when a bomb-rigged motorcycle exploded in front of a marketplace in Gardez, the capital of southeastern Paktia province, an official said.
The bike had been parked near a Kabul Bank’s branch and the explosion took place around 3pm, the governor’s spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News.
A doctor at the Gardez Civil Hospital, Haya Gul Paktin, confirmed receiving two dead bodies and 10 injured people at the hospital from the blast site. The injured are in stable condition, he added.
Rahmatullah, a resident of the city, said he was standing in front of a shop when a huge blast occurred and the explosion was so powerful that window glasses of nearby shops were smashed. He said several people were killed and wounded.
The resident asked the government to shift the bank’s office, an apparent target of the blast, to outside the city.
