JALALABAD (PAN): Eight civilians and six policemen were killed during a gun battle in Kamdesh district of eastern Nuristan province, officials said on Saturday.
Provincial police chief Ghulamullah told Pajhwok Afghan News that 25 insurgents were also killed and 21 civilians suffered injuries in the Friday clash.
Thirteen injured civilians were taken to Bagram Airbase.
Militants torched houses of residents, including the district chief’s house and injured his daughter, he said.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said besides destroying the district and police headquarters, they also killed 25 policemen and wounded 10 others.
Although the coalition forces bombed the area on Friday afternoon, there was no casualty on Taliban fighters, he said, but admitted five died during the clash itself.
