New Delhi (PAN, said a ministry’s statement. 

The Tokyo Conference organised by the government of Japan on July 8th follows a series of conferences held on Afghanistan during the last one year.

According to India’s External Affairs Ministry, at the Tokyo Conference, Krishna is expected to emphasise India’s long-term commitment to assist the Afghan government and its people build a peaceful, pluralistic, democratic and prosperous Afghanistan. 

The conference will be co-chaired by Japan and Afghanistan and about 70 countries and international organizations are expected to attend. 

The main aim of the conference is to ensure sustainable development of Afghanistan beyond 2012, reaffirming partnership between the international community and Afghan government until 2014 and during the transformation decade (2015-2024). 

The conference’s agenda includes long-term and sustainable economic development strategy of Afghanistan, aid coordination among international community, improvement on governance of the Afghan government and regional economic cooperation. 

“India is an active member in the reconstruction and development efforts of Afghanistan,” said the ministry’s statement. 

It said India and Afghanistan signed the Strategic Partnership Agreement in October, 2011 that reiterated India’s long-term commitment to the development and progress of Afghanistan. 

India organised the Delhi Investment Summit with the objective to attract foreign investment into Afghanistan in the light of new opportunities opening up in the areas like mining, hydrocarbon and infrastructure and investments in traditional sectors like agriculture and services,” added the statement. 

The recommendations of the Delhi summit, held on June 28th, would also be included at the Tokyo meet, it said.
