KABUL proposed the idea during the pre-confernce of the Tokyo meet on Sunday.
“The goal of this request is to give civil cooperation and reconstruction projects 30 percent of what is going to be saved once the withdrawal of the troops starts.
“Afgana also asks that fund allocations and projects selection procedures to be identified in an ad hoc forum among Italian government representatives and Afghan and Italian civil society organisations,” said Emanuele Giordana, Afgana spokeperson during his speech at the one-day Tokyo meet, according to a statement released here.
International donors are gathering in Tokyo on Sunday to raise funds to support the Afghansitan economy over the next few years as coalition forces prepare to withdraw from the country.
“We shared this idea in Bruxelles, a few days ago, in the annual meeting of the European Network of NGOs in Afghanistan, because we would be very happy if what we called 30 per cent initiative would become a European campaign, instead of being Italian only,”added Giordana.
Italy and Sweden were the only countries proposing such an allocation for civil cooperation.
Giordana also asked representatives of the Afghan civil society delegation to discuss the idea in their networks and organisations, to transform the “30 percent initiative” into a common request by global civil society.
The “Afgana” network, founded in 2007, coordinates with several Afghan civil society networks and organistions.
