LASHKARGAH/BAMYAN (PAN): Five people were killed and 13 others injured when a bomb-rigged motorcycle exploded near a police station in the Greshk district of southern Helmand province on Sunday, said officials.

The governor’s spokesman, Daud Ahmadi, said two policemen and three civilians were killed in the blast that happened near a police station located close to a busy district bazaar.

At least two policemen and 11 civilians suffered serious injuries in the remote-controlled explosion on Sunday evening, he added.

Taliban spokesperson Qari Yousef Ahmadi said they had carried out the attack and claimed 15 policemen were killed and seven others injured

In central Bamyan province, three Afghan National Army (ANA) personnel were killed in a roadside bomb in the Sheber district. Police spokesperson Ali Yarzada said three soldiers died and two others had been missing after their vehicle hit the roadside bomb yesterday.

He added the missing soldiers could have fallen into the river but there were no trace of them yet. Yarzada suspected Taliban carried out the attack.

Meanwhile, Taliban claimed responsibility for the incident but did not reveal details.
