KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): In the third phase of the transion programme, security of Kandahar City and some districts of the volatile southern province would be transferred from international soldiers to Afghan forces on Wednesday (today, an official said.
The security switch would take place during a special ceremony at the 205th Atal Military Corps, the governor’s spokesman, Javid Faisal, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The third phase would cover the provincial capital, Dand, Daman and Arghandab districts, where capable and well-equipped Afghan forces would take charge of security affairs, he added.
The transition is happening at a time when security in the provincial capital and some districts had been threatened by rising insurgents-led attacks against the government.
