4 civilians killed in Nangarhar roadside blast

KABUL):  Four civilians were killed and two others wounded when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in eastern Nangarhar on Saturday, said an official.

Khogyani district’s administrative chief Hajji Syed Rahman said the incident happened at about 10.30 am in Koz Byar area and two of the wounded were in critical condition.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a doctor on duty at Khogyani Hospital said the two victims were in critical condition.   

Separately a child was killed and two others wounded on Friday night during an operation carried out by the coalition forces in the Sorkhrod district of the province.

Meanwhile, a policeman and seven Taliban fighters including their commander were killed in different parts of the country, said officials and Interior Ministry on Saturday.

Six Taliban fighters were killed during the round-the-clock operations in Helmand, Kandahar, Zabul, Heart, Farah and Takhar provinces, said a ministry’s statement.

A militant was killed and three held in the operations launched by the police, with the support of other Afghan security personnel and the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), it added.

Thirty-five kilogrammes of drugs, 25 different types of weapons, a large quantity of ammunitions, a walkie-talkie and three motorcycles were seized in the operations, added the statement.

According to the ministry, an anti-tank bomb planted in the Khogyani district was recovered and defused by security personnel.

However, a Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, claimed they killed three Afghan soldiers and injured four others in a roadside bombing in Arghistan district of Kandahar.

Besides, militants blew up an Afghan National Army (ANA) vehicle and injured the soldiers on board, said the spokesman.

Taliban claimed they killed several Afghan soldiers in a clash in Grishk district in Helmand province.

Separately, a Taliban commander, Yousuf, was killed on Friday, after he shot dead a policeman in the Sarai Qala area of Khwaja Sabzposh district of northern Faryab province, the town’s administrative head Abdullah Masumi told Pajhwok Afghan News.

But Ahmadi said the policeman was killed and five others injured in the clash and confirmed the death of one their fighters.

In northern Takhar province, a deputy provincial Taliban commander, Qari Fairoz, was arrested in the Ashkmash district, said the governor’s spokesman, Faiz Mohammad Tawhidi.

Meanwhile, ISAF said in a statement that a commander of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan was captured during a joint operation by Afghan and international troops in the district.

Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the commander who led militants groups in Takhar and Kunduz provinces.

In the Dilaram district of southwestern province of Nimroz, six Taliban fighters and two security personnel were killed on Friday evening in a clash, said the district chief Khodaidad.

Three policemen were also injured during the one-hour clash, he said adding a machinegun, two Kalashnikovs and a pistol were seized from militants.

A National Directorate of Security officer, Nisar Ahmad and a checkpoint commander Rahmatullah were killed in the clash, an intelligence official said on condition of anonymity.

Ahmadi denied the movement’s casualties and said they attacked the district’s police headquarters and injured several policemen.
