NATO supply container attacked in Khyber

ISLAMABAD (PAN): The driver was killed when suspected insurgents attacked an International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) supply truck near Peshawar, the capital of Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, on Tuesday.

The attack -- the first since the reopening of the supply route about three weeks back -- happened in the Jamrud tribal area on the periphery of Peshawar, a political administration official, Ismatullah Wazir, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Islamabad closed the key supply link for NATO-led troops in Afghanistan after the killing of 24 Pakistani soldiers during a cross-border coalition airstrike in the Mohmand tribal region in November 2011. The supplies resumed after six months of frenetic talks.

Wazir said the assailants riding on a motorbike opened fire on the container in the Teddy Bazaar area, killing the driver and seriously wounding his assistant. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the assault.
