GHAZNI CITY/SHARAN (PAN fighters detained a group of abductors in the southern province of Ghazni, while a group of militants joined the peace process in southeastern Paktia, officials said on Wednesday.

The four kidnappers were detained late on Tuesday and a child freed from their captivity in Deh Yak district, resident Jamal Shah told Pajhwok Afghan News.

“We were standing in front of our shops on Tuesday evening when the group came in a car, saying they were abductors,” the resident added.

The four men, who abducted a 10-year-old child from Ghazni City, were held in the Nawabad area of Deh Yak district and the child was rescued from them.

A fighter, Abid, confirmed seizing four abductors with a car and rescuing the child who had been kidnapped for ransom.

Last week, the militants publicly punished a kidnapper with 40 whips in central Logar province.

Separately, a 17-member militant group surrendered to security personnel in Paktika. Governor Mohibullah Samim promised work opportunities for the ex-fighters.

A statement from the governor’s office quoted one of the surrendering fighters as saying that they unwittingly harmed the country on instructions from outsiders. After realising their mistake, they abandoned violence and surrendered their weapons to the government, he added.
