On Thursday, the US Congress confirmed James B. Cunningham as the new ambassador to Afghanistan, replacing Ryan C. Crocker.
“On behalf of the International Security Assistance Force and US Forces Afghanistan, I offer our congratulations to Ambassador Cunningham on his confirmation,” General John R. Allen said.
In a statement from the NATO-led force, Allen said: “I am honored to continue working with the ambassador in his new position as he helps build the strategic partnership between the US and Afghanistan that will ultimately strengthen Afghan sovereignty, security and prosperity.”
Prior to his nomination, Cunningham served as the deputy US ambassador to Afghanistan.
